Division Support within the Division of Water Restoration Assistance
This position requires the incumbent to have a broad working knowledge of Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to perform tasks related to the management, manipulation, and visualization of geospatial data. Employee will be responsible for assisting other program staff to use relevant spatial datasets and GIS applications when needed, as well as to provide the overall technical expertise for the use of geospatial data.
In carrying out the duties of this position, the incumbent is expected at all times to be aware of and abide by the Department’s Standards of Conduct, as well as any and all departmental and/or work unit rules, directives, policies, procedures, and/or general orders applicable to performing the duties of this position.
This is an advanced environmental position in the Division of Water Restoration Assistance (DWRA) which requires the incumbent to have a broad working knowledge of Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to perform tasks related to the management, manipulation, and visualization of geospatial data to coordinate the functions performed by DWRA for the State.
Acts as the Division GIS Coordinator the incumbent will be responsible for the management and distribution of geospatial data following the policies, procedures, and methods in accordance with FDEP Office of Information Services (OTIS), GIS section and the Florida Geographic Information Office (GIO). Keeps abreast of new GIS tools, data, software, architecture migrations and other issues impacting the Agency. Act as data steward for the Division’s spatial data both programmatically and as part of the DEP enterprise GIS library. Learn the process of formatting and spatial data QA, as well as preparing the metadata documentation. Act as point of contact for the enterprise Map Direct application focuses for the Division. Responsible for assisting other program staff to use relevant spatial datasets and GIS applications when needed, as well as to provide the overall technical expertise for the use of geospatial data.
Assist Division office with creating GIS Storymaps, including interactive (ESRI, Tableau, or Qlik) dashboards designed to explore the investments (and benefits) of water restoration projects. Create Ad hoc maps for events, postings, etc. Visualization of project status by watershed (e.g., Qlik or ESRI). Maintain project data within the Deepwater Horizon Program web map. Required tasks may include, but not limited to, preparing maps, rectifying aerial imagery, performing data analysis and calculations, performing quality assurance/quality control of data, digitizing legal descriptions, development and maintenance of geodatabases, publishing and distribution of geospatial data through the Department’s enterprise library and online applications, providing technical assistance to program staff related to GIS software, development of custom script tools to automatize repetitive tasks, prepare online dash boards and story maps for program staff and for the public.
Acts as the DWRA data governance officer for the Enterprise Grants System (EGS), provide quality assurance guidelines for the EGS. Provide assistance to the Division office with regular data quality assurance checks in EGS, EnABLE, and other databases. Help ensure that the data we are using for reporting is of the best quality and provides accurate information for leadership requests.
Acts as OCULUS Administrator for the division, coordinating with OTIS to grant access and permissions within the system. Coordinating with division staff and OTIS to assist with dispositioning records that are past their retention period.
Represent the Division in the IT Workgroup which provides tactical and operational input regarding technology issues, objectives, standards and projects. Serving as the primary liaison between the Division and OTIS and will be responsible for leading IT communications and initiatives for staff.
Other tasks may include preparing documentation and presentations, preparing GIS training for other program staff, and participate in meetings and trainings from other programs.
